Ghanaian farmer bags 20 years in jail for robbing woman of her phone worth ₵500

A report by Starrfmonline indicates that a 31-year-old farmer named Michael Nhyira Cobbina has been sentenced to 20 years in jail with hard labour at the Bekwai Circuit Court in Ashanti Region.

In a case presided over by His Honor, Mark Diboro, the young man was found guilty of stealing a woman of her itel Mobile phone, which was valued at ₵500.

The complainant Bernice Yeboah and the defendant reside in the Aduabin community in the Bosomtwi area of the Ashanti region, according to the prosecutor Chief Inspector Eric Twum.

At around 9:00 p.m. on December 1, 2022, Michael Nhyira Cobbina, with a knife, attacked the complainant, who was sharing a bed with her two children.

Due to the house’s isolation, the scared kids began to scream for aid but were unable to be heard. The complainant was held at knifepoint by the criminal, who threatened and demanded money from her. Because she was strapped for cash, she gave him her itel phone instead, which was already loaded with a Ghc 2000 e-cash.

Days later, a witness in the case who purchased the complaint’s mobile phone observed the accused’s wife in possession of the identical stolen phone.

On December 8, 2022, the complainant received information from the witness and immediately filed a police report at the Feyiase police station. The cellphone was found as police pursued the suspect. A phone search turned up images of Michael Nhyira Cobbina and his partner.

He admitted robbing the woman during interrogation and led police to his room to hand over exhibits.
