Teacher and government servant pay in Ghana are “indecent,” according to Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
“I look at teachers and governmental servants, for example, and I would be the first to confess that the wages are disgusting; nobody will contest that,” President Nana Akufo-cousin Addo’s said during a town hall gathering in Wa, Upper West Region, on Monday, February 21, 2022.
There is a reasonable desire for more and a realistic reality of little money, he acknowledged.
“What do we as a society do?” asked.
“Then you ask for a raise, which is great. But your colleagues who collect the money are not collecting it, so how can you, who are responsible for collecting it, not collect it and then demand me to pay you the money? That will be a problem”, he said.
The original 1.75 % e-levy has been reduced to 1.5 %.
It is still pending in the hung parliament since the Minority Caucus would not cooperate with the Majority.
