Antoine Semenyo Makes History as First Ghanaian Named in PFA Premier League Team of the Year
Ghanaian footballer Antoine Semenyo has made history after becoming the first Ghanaian player ever selected for the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Premier League Team of the Year.
The Manchester City forward earned the prestigious recognition following an impressive 2025/26 Premier League campaign, with the team selected by fellow professional footballers.
Semenyo is included alongside some of the biggest names in English football, including Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice and Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.
A Landmark Achievement for Ghana
Semenyo’s selection represents a significant milestone for Ghanaian football. Being voted into the PFA Team of the Year means his performances were recognised by the very players who competed against him throughout the season.
The 26-year-old started the 2025/26 campaign with Bournemouth before completing a move to Manchester City in January. His form continued after the transfer, helping him establish himself as an important attacking option for the club.
He finished the Premier League season with 17 goals, surpassing Tony Yeboah’s previous mark of 12 goals for a Ghanaian in a single Premier League campaign.
