UNIVERSITY OF GHANA URGES CAMPUS COMMUNITY TO STRICTLY OBSERVE COVID-19 PROTOCOLS AMID SUSPECTED CASES
The University of Ghana Health Services Directorate has issued a cautionary alert following a recent increase in suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Legon campus.
In a public notice dated June 23, 2025, the Directorate highlighted the resurgence of the virus within the university community and urged students, staff, and visitors to strictly adhere to established preventive measures to mitigate further spread.
Key recommendations include mandatory wearing of face masks in enclosed and crowded spaces, regular hand hygiene using soap or alcohol-based sanitizers, maintaining a minimum physical distance of one metre, and ensuring adequate ventilation in offices and lecture halls.
The Health Services Directorate also advised avoidance of large gatherings where possible and encouraged anyone experiencing flu-like symptoms to stay home and seek immediate medical attention.
To bolster its response, the Directorate has reactivated COVID-19 protocols such as screening and triage at university health facilities and is closely monitoring the evolving situation.
“As we continue to navigate this public health challenge, cooperation from the entire campus community is essential to safeguard lives and ensure continuity of academic activities,” the statement emphasized.
