MICHAEL JACKSON’S DIRTY SOCK FETCHES OVER $8,800 AT AUCTION

A rhinestone-encrusted sock once worn by the late “King of Pop,” Michael Jackson, has sold for $8,822 at an auction in France, more than double its estimated value.

According to France 24, the crystal-embroidered white athletic sock was worn by Jackson during his 1997 HIStory World Tour performance in Nice, France, where he famously performed Billie Jean. Auctioneer Aurore Illy revealed the sock was left behind in the dressing room after the concert and later found by a technician.

Specialist site Interencheres.com confirmed the sock, though slightly worn, remains a rare collector’s item. “It really is an exceptional object — even a cult one for Michael Jackson fans,” Illy said.

Jackson memorabilia remains highly coveted worldwide. In recent years, his iconic sequined glove from his first-ever moonwalk in 1983 sold for $350,000 to a Macau gaming resort, while a fedora he wore before the legendary dance move fetched over $80,000 in Paris in 2023.

Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009, at age 50, from acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication. His former doctor, Conrad Murray, was later convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
